Introduction to Project Blazing MARTA

Project Blazing MARTA aims to document the downlow knowledge of MARTA that you can only get through experience. I plan to cover all 38 train stations and 101 bus routes (numbers as of 2023).

Here’s what I’ll mostly be covering:

Train Stations

  • Layout of stations
    • For example, where the stairwells/escalators are on the train platform so you can appropriately place yourself on the train to get to the exit quickly
    • or where the bus bay/parking lot/exit to the street is
    • or what’s on different levels of the station (I’m looking at you Five Points & Georgia State Station)
  • Notable destinations within walking distance of the station. I define walking distance as <0:15 walk. Farther destinations may be listed if the station is the only transit option for the destination.
  • Other useful stuff or features (bike tool kit, cool architecture, a certain ticket door you can slide through, etc)

Bus Routes

  • Location of the bus in the bus bay (so you know exactly where to run to when you are running late to catch a bus at an unfamiliar station)
  • Reliability of the bus route (Do the buses on the route frequently get cancelled or suffer severe delays?)
  • Notable destinations within walking distance of bus stops along the route. Farther destinations may be listed if the bus route is the only transit option for the destination.
  • Other quirks (electric buses, notable bus stops, wonky bus windows, the mobile ticket scanner is always broken, etc.)
