yumminess: 3/5 it is not bad but it is also not good
non-vegan similarity: 1/5 not even reminiscent of the original
price: $3.3 at Trader Joe’s (Feb 2024)
I literally never go to Trader Joe’s so this will be one of very few reviews for something from there wowie
ummmmmm yeah. it just tastes like stale fried tofu. like literally less flavor than plain fried tofu. very whole-foods-plant-based type flavor lmfao. tastes like a vegan sausage from the early 2000s. there is nothing italian about these…
good news is it doesn’t have any wierd after-taste or anything it just literally tastes like tofu & is super bland. tbh it prob wouldn’t be that bad if I did the ol’ fry + soy sauce glaze on it. but following the package directions of just frying did nothing for it lmao. how can something that’s fried still taste this healthy-vegan-tofu-alternative….
Trader Joe’s listen up! you need to add 1) fat and 2) flavor to these things. unless you intend for them to have that healthy-vegan-tofu alternative vibe… in that case, u r succeeding….
tldr; they’re fine in a pinch for hot dogs. they do not taste like sausage. fry with lots of oil & soy sauce them if u want any meaty flavor.
Ethics Notes: No sustainability certifications on this thing lmfao. Not even non-GMO lmfao.
& idk much about Trader Joe’s in general except that they scream green-wash-liberalmaxxxxxing to me so this checks out.
Our Prep: Followed package directions & fried it in some oil in a pan for like 0:05. Ate as hot dogs with loadssss of ketchup & mustard.
It says you can also microwave these but if you do that, I think they would taste like how many American 5 year olds seem to think tofu tastes.
Ingredients/Allergen Stuff: Contains wheat & soy.
